EDINBURGH, Scotland, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- An old tradition from another culture is planned for Scotland's ancient capital with a ceremony to mark the end of the Jewish Hanukkah season.
The festivities planned for St. Andrew Square in Edinburgh include the lighting of the nine candles on a large menorah Sunday afternoon followed by four hours of music and dancing. Eric Milligan, a member of the city council and former lord provost of Edinburgh, is to deliver the keynote address, The Scotsman reported.
"It will be the first time that I have attended such a ceremony and I am very much looking forward to it," Milligan said.
"I am a Presbyterian by faith but working as a counselor in Edinburgh I have forged close relationships with all of its religious communities and am honored to be asked to speak."
While Hanukkah is a joyous holiday marking the rededication of the temple in Jerusalem, this year's celebration will have its solemn moments. Rabby Pinny Weinman, a member of the Chabad Lubavitch movement and organizer of the event, has dedicated the ceremony to those killed at the Chabad Lubavitch center in Mumbai during the terrorist attacks.
