CONAKRY, Guinea, Dec. 26 (UPI) -- The leaders of a military coup in Guinea say foreign diplomats should visit the West African country to learn of their intentions.
Capt. Moussa Dadis Camara and other coup leaders are organizing a diplomatic meeting Saturday in Conakry that will be focused on detailing their intentions, the BBC said.
Tuesday's coup was criticized by some members of the international community, despite being readily accepted by some Guinea residents.
The military revolt came within hours of President Lansana Conte's death and Camara quickly declared himself the country's newest head of state.
Some government leaders maintain they are in control of Guinea despite the coup leaders' claims, the BBC said.
Separate talks have been scheduled Saturday on which coup heads will meet with members of the country's civil society groups and political parties regarding the transition of power in Guinea.
