PERUGIA, Italy, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Italian authorities say three men and three women will serve as the jury in the trial of two defendants charged with killing British student Meredith Kercher.
Testimony in the sensational case was scheduled to begin on Jan. 16 in a Perugia, Italy, courtroom where the jurors will hear the case with two judges presiding, Italy's ANSA news agency said Tuesday.
Kercher was killed in November 2007 in an apartment she shared with another exchange student. Roommate Amanda Knox, 21, of the United States and her Italian boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, 24, are charged with murder.
A third defendant, Rudy Guede, was convicted in a non-jury trial last month of murder and sexual assault in the case and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
ANSA said prosecutors believe the slaying stemmed from an attempt by the defendants to force Kercher into participating in sexual acts.
