WASHINGTON, Dec. 22 (UPI) -- The western and southern United States again dominated the list of the country's fastest-growing states during the last year, U.S. Census officials said.
Utah was the fastest-growing state between July 1, 2007, and July 1, 2008, at 2.5 percent, increasing its population to 2.7 million, figures showed. It was one of six Rocky Mountain states in the 10 fastest-growing list, which also includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada and Wyoming.
The three other Top 10 states lined the South Atlantic coast: Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, officials said.
Arizona was the second fastest-growing state, increasing 2.3 percent from 2007-08. Texas, North Carolina and Colorado completed the top five, each with a growth rate of 2 percent.
Nevada, meanwhile, fell out of the top four for the first time in 24 years, growing 1.8 percent and ranking eighth over the most recent period, Census officials said.
