Poll: Almost half in U.S. creationist
TEHRAN, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi contended Iranian authorities had no written justification for raiding human rights offices in Tehran Sunday.
The human rights campaigner alleged despite being temporarily detained by authorities, she was never given any explanation by authorities regarding what brought about the raids, CNN reported.
Ebadi maintained that means the raids of the Defenders of Human Rights Center and Center for Participation in Clearing Mine Areas were illegal.
"The collective activities of the human rights activists in Iran have angered the Iranian authorities so much that they have illegally ordered the closing down of two (non-governmental organizations)," Ebadi said.
The offices of the humans rights groups that Ebadi heads in the Iranian capital were closed down in the wake of the raids.
Ebadi, whose human rights works earned her a 2003 Nobel Peace Prize, alleged in 2006 that the Iranian government had threatened to arrest anyone who supported her work for her human rights agency, CNN said.
