Obama to spend Christmas in Hawaii

HONOLULU, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Political sources say President-elect Barack Obama will attend a memorial for his late grandmother during a holiday stay in Hawaii before his inauguration.

Obama and his family are to arrive in Hawaii Sunday for 10 days and attend a private service for Madelyn Dunham, who died two days before Obama was elected president, the Honolulu Star-Bulletin reported Saturday.

The visit will be Obama's third trip to Hawaii this year. Obama visited Hawaii in October to see his ailing grandmother, who raised him, and in August for a vacation before the Democratic National Convention.

No public events have been scheduled for this visit, the Star-Bulletin reported, noting Obama was born in Hawaii and graduated in 1979 from Punahou High School.
