Anchorage artists hold 'beach party'

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- An artists group held a "beach party" in Alaska while the temperature was in the teens to promote an upcoming project focusing on how humans relate to cold.

The party lasted about 20 minutes in Park Strip in Anchorage, the Anchorage Daily News reported. Most of the party-goers remained fairly well covered, although some bared their arms and legs at least briefly.

"Freeze" kicks off with a New Year's Eve party and runs through early February. It includes performances and lectures and a concluding forum on the environment.

Park Strip will be home to a temporary exhibit of sculptures "creating experiences that highlight the exquisite northern elements of snow, ice and light," the artists said in a release.

Some participants in "Freeze" are coming from out of state, mostly from other northern areas like Iceland and Canada.
