WASILLA, Alaska, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The likely mother-in-law of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter, Bristol, has been arrested in Wasilla, Alaska, on drug charges, police say.
Police said Sherry L. Johnston, whose son Levi is engaged to the younger Palin, is facing six felony criminal counts for allegedly manufacturing and possessing narcotics in her Wasilla home, The Politico said Friday.
Johnston was arrested Thursday by police, who searched her family home in attempt to find additional evidence to support the narcotics allegations.
Johnston, whose son is the father of Bristol Palin's unborn child, has since been freed from the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility on $2,000 bond.
The elder Palin has already issued a statement about the charges against Johnston, whose grandchild is expected to be born Saturday, the Politico said.
"This is not a state government matter," a spokesman for the former Republican vice presidential candidate said. "Therefore the governor's communications staff will not be providing comment or scheduling interview opportunities."
