SOFIA, Bulgaria, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Hundreds of farmers on tractors and other farm equipment blocked traffic Friday in the capital of Bulgaria, demonstrating for larger government grain subsidies.

Radoslav Hristov, president of the National Grain Producers Association, said he expected 600 vehicles and 800 people at the demonstration, the Sofia News Agency reported. A similar demonstration was scheduled for Saturday morning.

In the past few days, farmers have been blocking major routes around the country to draw attention to their demands. Similar protests were held in September and November.

Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev agreed to meet with two representatives of the farmers' group, Focus News Agency said.
