NEW YORK, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Joel Cacace, reputed former head of the Colombo crime family, ordered the killing of New York police officer Ralph Dols in 1997, prosecutors allege.
The New York Daily News said Cacace, who is currently incarcerated on racketeering and murder conspiracy charges, allegedly ordered suspected mobsters Dino Calabro and Dino Saracino to kill Dols.
Both Calabro and Saracino have also been charged in the death of the housing officer, who was found shot five times outside his home on Aug. 25, 1997.
Dols had been married to a woman who previously had dated Cacace and been married to reputed Colombo family soldier Enrico Carini.
The indictment from Brooklyn U.S. Attorney Benton Campbell also accuses suspected current Colombo acting boss Thomas Gioeli of orchestrating the death of reputed mobster William Cutolo in 1999.
The remains of Cutolo, nicknamed Wild Bill, were found in Farmingdale, N.Y., by FBI officials in October, the Daily News said.
