PETAH TIKVA, Israel, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The driver of the Israeli bus that crashed, killing 24 Russian travel agents, was arrested Thursday after being released from a hospital, police said.

Edward Gelfond, hospitalized in Petah Tikva after suffering injuries in the Tuesday crash on the road to Eilat, was taken in for questioning after his release. Later, Gelfond was to be brought before the Kfar Saba Magistrates Court, Ynetnews.com reported.

The initial findings of the team investigating the fatal bus accident showed that the bus's tachograph device was missing a required disc.

The use of tachographs is required by law in order to monitor speed and also to ensure that drivers do not work more consecutive hours than permitted.
