Ex-priests excommunicated for new church

PHOENIX, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- A former Roman Catholic priest who founded a new church in Phoenix after being charged with sexual misconduct has been excommunicated.

Dale Fushek and Mark Dippre, another former priest, founded the Praise and Worship Center last year. Bishop Thomas Olmsted said both have been excommunicated, barred from receiving the sacraments or participating in church life in any way, The Arizona Republic reported Tuesday.

Fushek was suspended from the priesthood four years ago. He faces misdemeanor criminal charges.
