President-elect Obama appoints national security team in Chicago

WASHINGTON, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. Attorney General-designate Eric Holder says he has a net worth of $5.7 million and has acted as a lobbyist for three companies in recent years.

Holder, 57, made the disclosures in a questionnaire filed with the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, which next month will hold hearings to confirm U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's choice to lead the Justice Department, the Washington publication Politico reported Tuesday.

In the questionnaire, Holder revealed he made more than $2.1 million last year while representing corporate clients as a partner at the prominent Washington law firm Covington & Burling, which will pay him more than $3 million in deferred compensation and other pay when he leaves to join the administration.

As a lobbyist, Holder registered to represent a group of medical schools, biotechnology firm Large Scale Biology Corp., and Global Crossing, a telecommunications company that in 2002 became the subject of one of the largest bankruptcies in U.S. history, Politico reported.

Observers say Holder is likely to get a rocky reception from Republican senators who are keen to question him about his role in the controversial 2001 pardon by former President Bill Clinton of fugitive financier Marc Rich.
