RUTSHURU, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- An aid worker in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo was killed in an ambush, his employer said Tuesday.

Boduin Ntamenya of the Voluntary Association for International Service and his driver were both killed outside Rutshuru, CNN reported.

Their vehicle was attacked by four gunman, the organization said.

Ntamenya, 52, is originally from Goma. He was part of a training group that supports and helps teachers and students who work and study in conflict zones.

The U.N. consultative refugee agency began its humanitarian activities in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2002. The organization works with children at its displaced persons camp west of Goma.
