Taxi for drinkers hit, driver killed

DRUMMONDVILLE, Quebec, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- A Quebec woman who ran a company that drove driving drinkers home from parties was hit and killed in her car by a suspected drunk driver, police said.

Provincial police said Cecile Descoteaux, 60, died instantly at 2:30 a.m. Sunday after a Jeep rounded a corner on a highway and smashed into her car near Drummondville, 65 miles east of Montreal, The Gazette newspaper reported.

Descoteaux had two passengers in her car, both employees, who sustained fractures and minor injuries, police said.

The unidentified 48-year-old driver of the Jeep was tested for blood alcohol content, but results weren't immediately released. He also sustained non-life-threatening injuries, police spokeswoman Ann Mathieu said, and causes other than impaired driving were being investigated.

"There could be other factors in the accident," she said. "Maybe (the Jeep driver) was distracted, maybe he fell asleep."
