PASSAU, Germany, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- A manhunt was under way Sunday in Germany for a suspected neo-Nazi who allegedly stabbed a local police chief at his home, officials said.
Alois Mannichl, the police chief in the southern German city of Passau, was seriously injured when he was stabbed after answering the door at his home, Deutsche Welle reported.
Police said they have linked the attack to a series of raids against right-wing groups this year in the city of about 100,000 residents.
Mannichl said his attacker wished him greetings from "the national resistance," Bavarian Interior Ministry spokesman Oliver Platzer said.
Last month, the extreme right-wing party NPD accused Mannichl of harassing its members during a rally to remember Germany's war dead.
