TORONTO, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Toronto police have charged a woman for allegedly calling parents saying their children had been sexually assaulted by a school employee.

Detective Steve McIlwain told the Toronto Star the charges were related to at least nine anonymous telephone calls made to parents Dec. 4, which prompted a Toronto school board meeting the next day.

The morning of the meeting, a number of parents showed up to confront the school's principal about the calls that said "their child had been sexually assaulted by a teacher, or the principal had secret files concerning their child's mental health," the Star said.

"When the parents showed up, the principal didn't know what was going on," McIlwain said.

He said all of the parents were told by the caller she was a teacher at the school, which wasn't true.

Shelan Waisberg, 34, was charged with nine counts of public mischief, eight counts of impersonation, mischief interfering with property, nine counts of conveying a false message and criminal harassment, the Star said.
