MUMBAI, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Thousands of people joined hands Friday in the Indian commercial capital Mumbai in a gesture of solidarity and protest against the terrorist attacks.

Human chains or a single broken chain linked the Trident and Taj Mahal hotels and the railroad station and Jewish Community Center where gunmen struck Nov. 26, The Chandigarh Tribune reported. Those taking part ranged from school children and their teachers to Bollywood actors.

"It is our way of showing that people can stand up to terrorism," said Anuraj Goyal, a shop owner.

More than 50 Trident employees stood outside the hotel.

"We are battling terror. November 26 was the most dreadful day of my life. As much as I would want to forget it, I can't,'' one said.

Banners had photographs of three senior police officials who were killed in the attacks. Some signs urged Indians not to succumb to violence with a quotation from Mohandas Gandhi -- "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
