Suspensions lifted in Texas brownie hoax

EL PASO, Texas, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Some El Paso, Texas, parents say the suspension of three students was appropriate even though the brownies they supposedly laced with pot were perfectly clean.

KFOX-TV, El Paso, said Wednesday that the three Chapin High School students were suspended before the tests came back, which turned out to be negative.

The story originated with a campus rumor that members of Chapin's dance team had laced brownies with marijuana, laxatives and even rat poison and planned to give them to members of the dance squad at rival Andress. The threat made national headlines and landed three students on suspension.

The girls were suspended after team members said they had only used laxatives in the treats. The suspensions were lifted this week.

KFOX said some students thought the El Paso Independent School District was too quick in suspending the girls, but a number of parents say making a threat is grounds for suspension whether it was genuine or a hoax.
