Israel unveils new anti-rocket radar

JERUSALEM, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Israeli military officials say they're deploying a new type of advanced radar that will pinpoint the sources of rocket fire and aim artillery at them.

"There is no radar like this in the world," Chief Artillery Officer Brig. Gen. Michel Ben-Baruch told Wednesday's Jerusalem Post. "It can pinpoint the location of the launch and then find the range the cannons will need to aim at to fire."

Ben-Baruch said Elta Systems -- a subsidiary of Israel Aerospace Industries -- is producing the new radar, which he says will be able to provide artillery cannons with a 360-degree view of a battlefield and detect the exact location of rocket launchers.

Once spotted, the locations will be transmitted digitally to the cannons or rocket systems, which will be able to fire at the launchers and destroy them, the newspaper said.
