Doctor indicted as part of brothel case

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- A doctor in Miami Beach, Fla., says he was unjustly indicted as part of a legal case involving an alleged brothel discovered this year.

Dr. Evan J. Zimmer said after appearing in a Miami-Dade County court Tuesday that he never spent more than $10,000 for prostitution services at the alleged brothel in the Florida county, The Miami Herald said.

''This is really a case of identity theft,'' the psychiatrist said of his indictment. "This is ridiculous.''

Zimmer was linked to the alleged brothel through his credit cards, which investigators allege show he spent thousands of dollars on illegal trysts.

The alleged prostitution site was discovered this year during a police investigation into suspected gang leader Rudy Villanueva, the Herald reported.

The newspaper said a raid of a property linked to Villanueva allegedly uncovered an Internet prostitution company that included a 17-year-old prostitute.

The prostitution charges against Zimmer marked the most recent legal troubles for the 57-year-old, who previously faced allegations of driving under the influence, failing to pay child support and being involved in a Medicare fraud scheme.
