Brazil: Report says pilots, controllers caused crash

SAO PAULO, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Two U.S. pilots and Brazilian air traffic controllers doomed two planes that collided in midair, leaving 154 people dead, a report issued Wednesday concludes.

The report by the Brazilian Air Force said communication failures between pilots and traffic controllers were responsible for the 2006 collision between a commercial airliner and a small private plane, Agencia Estado reported online.

The crash of Gol Flight 1907 in September 2006 was one of the worst accidents in Brazilian aviation history. The small private plane flown by the two U.S. pilots managed to land safely after the collision.
