Mother said Josh Powell threatened her
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A Florida teenager alleges her constitutional rights were violated when she was suspended for creating a Facebook page that criticized a teacher.
In a U.S. District Court suit, Katherine Evans accuses Peter Bayer, her former principal, of violating her First Amendment rights by suspending her in November 2007 from Pembroke Pines High School, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Tuesday.
Evans, on the Facebook Page, called her English teacher "the worst teacher I've ever met!" and invited classmates to "express your feelings of hatred," the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Bayer allegedly called Evans' actions harassing cyberbullying, said the suit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union.
Evans said Bayer pulled her from her advanced placement classes and put her into less rigorous classes, which "unjustifiably besmirched Plaintiff's academic record," claims the lawsuit, which seeks to have the suspension removed from Evans' permanent academic record.
