FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Aviation authorities say three people died in the collision of two small planes over the Florida Everglades.
Both plane were reported missing Saturday and the wreckage was found early Sunday near U.S. 27, said Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration.
A Piper 44, believed to have one person on board, left Fort Lauderdale Saturday afternoon and was headed to Opa-Locke, The Miami Herald reported.
The second plane, believed to have two people on board, had taken off from the North Perry airport and was headed to the same area, the Herald reported.
Both planes were flying under visual flight rules, Bergen said, noting the planes' last reported position was about 8 miles west of Fort Lauderdale.
