CHICAGO, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- A former aide and confidant to Rod Blagojevich worked with federal authorities to make covert tape recordings of the Illinois governor, sources allege.

The unidentified sources say 42-year-old John Wyma agreed to work with federal investigators in their inquiry into corruption allegations made against Blagojevich and his administration, the Chicago Tribune said Friday.

Blagojevich has not been charged and has maintained his innocence in the matter.

During the federal investigation into the governor, Wyma has allegedly been linked to pay-to-play contracts and questionable fundraising. Pay-to-play contracts involve an official receiving contributions in exchange for providing some political influence.

The sources said the influential lobbyist's alleged cooperation with authorities marks the most dramatic move in the corruption investigation the Tribune said.

Details on the content of the alleged recordings were not reported.
