Fred Goldman: Simpson where he belongs

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Among those in a Nevada courtroom as O.J. Simpson was sentenced Friday was Fred Goldman, whose son was killed along with the former football star's ex-wife.

Goldman welcomed the prison term Simpson received for armed robbery, CNN reported.

"If our efforts for all these years of pushing him drove him to commit armed robbery in Vegas, great! This monster is where he belongs -- behind bars," Goldman said.

Simpson was acquitted in 1995 of charges that he killed his ex-wife Nichole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, who had gone to her home to return her mother's glasses. But, in 1997, a jury in a wrongful death suit awarded millions of dollars to the Goldmans.

Las Vegas District Court Judge Jackie Glass referred to the Goldmans as she imposed a 9-to-33-year sentence in Simpson. She was discussing Simpson's claim that he was trying to get back his own property from two sports memorabilia dealers.

"You didn't want those items falling into the hands of the Goldmans," she said. "You made reference on the tape to them as the gold-diggers."

Denise Brown, Nichole's sister, released a statement that focused on the effect of Simpson's actions and imprisonment on the two children he had with Nichole.
