SANAA, Yemen, Dec. 4 (UPI) -- A total of 255 Somali refugees, including 18 women, were rescued by Yemen in the Abyan province after the refugees' boat was destroyed, a source says.

The unidentified source said in a statement that while the Yemen coast guard was able to rescue 255 refugees from beaches in the Yemeni province, eight bodies of suspected Somali refugees were found in the area, the Saba news agency said Thursday.

The refugees rescued in the eastern province have been granted shelter by the provincial government, the source told the Yemeni agency.

No reason for the maritime accident was reported.
