Assistant U.S. Attorney Joey Contreras said in U.S. District Court this week that following a report last month by KENS-TV of San Antonio, authorities were forced to move Ray Carrasco for his own safety, the San Antonio Express-News said Thursday.
Contreras assured U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia on Wednesday that at no point did Carrasco cooperative with authorities.
"I can and will tell you he is not cooperating. Period," he told the judge.
The prosecutor's statement came the same day as comments from KENS news director Kurt Davis, who said his station never reported that the organized crime member was cooperating.
At no point did we say this guy cooperated," Davis said. "For the record, we were made aware that this guy was not cooperating with law enforcement. We reported that he had worked out a deal but was not cooperating."
The Express-News said Carrasco has pleaded guilty to racketeering activity charges, including being involved with drug trafficking and the deaths of two gang members.
