HONG KONG, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- Former President Bill Clinton says he thinks his wife made the right decision in agreeing to leave the U.S. Senate and become Barack Obama's secretary of state.

Clinton said it was a difficult choice for Hillary Clinton to make because she "adored being in the Senate," CNN reported Wednesday.

He said his wife's first inkling that she was being considered for a post in the Obama cabinet came when she read about it in a newspaper.

Clinton said he will have very little to do with her decisions in the job.

"I'll just try to be a helpful sounding board to her, but I don't think I'll do any more than that," the former president told CNN.

He made the comments in Hong Kong after arriving to open a meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative.
