HEBRON, West Bank, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Hundreds of right-wing Jewish activists clashed Tuesday with police in Hebron, smashing the windows of Palestinian vehicles, authorities said.

Two activists were arrested for rioting in the Palestinian neighborhoods near a disputed Hebron home, damaging a Muslim cemetery in the process, Ynetnews.com reported. The Jewish activists said Palestinians began the fight by throwing stones at them.

Right-wing activist Itamar Ben-Gvir told Ynetnews: "The police brought the Hebron riots on themselves. Instead of calming the area, Border Guard officers enter the crowd, hurl shock and gas grenades, on innocent people as well. No wonder they face resistance in Gaza."

The rioting came after rumors spread Monday night that Israeli security forces were set to evict residents of the disputed house. Hundreds of right-wing activists ramped up protest activities in the area, some of which became violent and resulted in arrests, Ynetnews said.
