PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- A Philadelphia man fired a semi-automatic gun Tuesday during an argument with his ex-girlfriend at a Kmart where she works, wounding a manager, police said.
The gunman, identified as Anthony Birch, 30, fled the store and was still at large, Fox29 Philadelphia reported.
Police said the woman involved was the mother of the shooter's two children and that she had filed a protection from abuse order against him.
The 35-year-old manager, who had tried to intervene in the confrontation, was hit in the chest and by a bullet that grazed his head, police said. He was being treated at a hospital.
The gunfire sent shoppers scattering.
"There were several people inside the store. People ran outside," said Lt. Frank Vanore. "There were several employees inside the store, especially in this area. There's actually video. The detectives are going over it."
Some schools in the area were locked down.
