CHICAGO, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Car accidents and flight delays were the rule as a winter snowstorm pounded the nation's midsection at the conclusion of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
After dumping snow as far south as Georgia, the storm headed toward the East Coast Monday, Accuweather.com reported Monday.
Snow flurries were sighted as far south as Marietta, Ga., with at least two school systems deciding to cancel classes for Monday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Dozens of minor car accidents were reported in Green Bay, Wis. Sunday as hunters, football fans and Thanksgiving travelers headed home on slick roads, the Green Bay Press-Gazette reported.
In Michigan, more than 70 traffic accidents were reported in the Port Huron area as a result of the winter storm, the Port Huron Times-Herald reported.
No stranger to snowstorms, the city of Chicago mobilized its fleet of snow-fighting trucks expecting up to 5 inches. The far northwest suburbs were warned as much as 7 inches of snow could fall by Monday, Chicago's Southtown Star reported.
