Venezuela's Chavez wants another term

CARACAS, Venezuela, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Hugo Chavez said Sunday he wants to stay on as president of Venezuela until 2021.

The BBC reported Chavez announced he plans to pursue a constitutional amendment that would let him seek re-election without term limits.

Under current law, the leftist leader would be unable to stay in office beyond 2012.

"I am ready, and if I am healthy, God willing, I will be with you until 2019, until 2021," he said.

He lost a constitutional referendum on several issues, including term limits, last year. But this time around Chavez said he would seek a vote just on removing term limits, the BBC said.
