Russian Communists address finance crisis

MOSCOW, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Russian Communist Party members, meeting this weekend in Moscow, say they intend to propose their own plan to overcome the global financial crisis.

With the Western capitalist economies reeling from bad investments in the mortgage market and suffering from a severe credit crunch, Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov says his party is proposing "a real alternative to the current course," Itar-Tass reported Saturday.

The Communists' new party platform, distributed at the meeting site in the concert hall of Moscow's Izmailovo hotel complex, contends that the 20th century dispute between capitalism and socialism has not ended and predicts that maintaining capitalism as the world's dominant economic system may result in a catastrophe, the news service said.
