GAZA, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Gaza sources say one person was killed and four others injured Friday when Israeli forces fired on a suspected bombing cell along the border.

Ynetnews said according to the unidentified sources, Israeli paratroopers opened fire on a group suspected of approaching the border fence in order to plant an explosive device.

The Palestinian group was the first to fire in the border incident near the city of Khan Younis, prompting an armed response from the paratroopers, the military said.

No soldiers were injured in the gun battle.

Palestinian sources said the gunmen fired six mortar shells during the armed conflict, all of which landed in the Gaza Strip.

Reports regarding the border conflict have been contradictory to date, with some alleging the involvement of either an aircraft or a tank.

Ynetnews said there has been no news regarding any possible militant affiliation for those killed or injured in the attack.
