Weather should hold for travel, shopping

NEW YORK, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- The weather is expected to cooperate Wednesday for travelers taking to the U.S. highways and skyways on one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Two areas of the country were expected to have nasty weather Wednesday that could affect Thanksgiving holiday travel and "Black Friday" shopping excursions, AccuWeather.com reported.

A disturbance over Canada was predicted to produce bands of lake-effect snow across the eastern Great Lakes and interior Northeast United States, forecasters said. A storm moving into Southern California was forecast to douse the area with heavy rain and mountain snow.

Snow- and storm-related watches, warnings and advisories were in effect from the eastern Great Lakes through Maine, AccuWeather.com said. Forecasters said areas in the posted area could receive between 3-6 inches of snow, with as much as 12 inches possible in the Adirondack Mountains in New York.

In California, rain was expected to ease the fire danger and drought conditions, periods of heavy rain could lead to flooding and mudslides in areas where wildfires stripped vegetation, forecasters said.

Forecasters predicted dry weather Thursday in New York, when tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line the streets to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
