CALGARY, Alberta, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Mexican police are investigating the drowning deaths of an Alberta, Canada, couple found washed ashore on a beach near an Acapulco resort.

Emergency crews were unable to resuscitate Calgary residents Kevin Suppes, 42, and his fiancee Tanya Hastings, 37, Monday after their bodies were found after 2 p.m., the Calgary Sun reported Wednesday.

Suppes co-owned a Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, construction products distribution company with his brother, Scott, who told the Sun he was trying to piece together what happened by working the telephone.

"It was an accidental drowning -- all I know is they were swimming in the ocean and some fisherman saw they were in trouble and tried to get to them and couldn't," he said.

Suppes said he had spoken with the hotel manager and Canada's Department of Foreign Affairs trying to learn more details.

He said the couple had been considered moving to British Columbia because they each wanted to live by the ocean.
