HOUSTON, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- Barbara Bush, wife and mother of the two Presidents Bush, was hospitalized Tuesday night in Houston, but was expected to be released.

Jim McGrath, a spokesman for the Bush family, said that the former first lady, now 83, had had "a little bit of pain," CNN reported. He said that she went to Methodist Hospital by car, accompanied by her husband, former President George H.W. Bush.

Tests done at the hospital were negative and Mrs. Bush was expected to be released within hours, McGrath said.

Mrs. Bush was diagnosed with Graves' disease during her husband's presidency. The disease is a thyroid disorder that can cause eye problems and other symptoms.

The Bushes met as teenagers, became engaged before the future president went on active duty as a pilot and married after his return from World War II service. Since leaving the White House in 1993, the couple have divided their time between Houston and Kennebunkport, Maine.
