Snow, icy roads plague Swedish drivers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Drivers should stay off Sweden's roads as snow and strong winds bear down on the country, bringing ice and cold temperatures, meteorologists said Sunday.

Icy and snow-covered roads were expected to remain that way through Monday, forecasters told the Swedish news agency TT.

Temperatures were expected to dip below freezing even in southern Sweden, where a 49-year-old woman died Saturday after losing control of her car on an icy road near Vaxjo.

Bad weather moved into Oland, Gotland and around Stockholm Saturday, with reports from other areas of the country of dozens of car accidents caused by treacherous road conditions, TT said.
