SDEROT, Israel, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Three rockets were fired at southern Israel and a Palestinian site was attacked Saturday further straining the shaky truce in the region, sources said.

Ynetnews reported a pair of rockets landed near Sderot, Israel, resulting in the activation of the Color Red anti-rocket alert system despite there being no injuries.

A third rocket landed just south of the coastal city of Ashkelon with no injuries reported in that attack either. All three rockets were said to have been fired from Gaza.

An unidentified source said in an apparent response, an Israeli tank fired on a group of Palestinian men thought to be responsible for the rocket assaults.

Several Palestinians were hurt in the Israeli attack, the source said. The exact condition of those wounded was not reported.

Army officials confirmed Israeli forces had targeted a suspected rocket-armed militant cell, claiming the attack left one suspect wounded.

The attacks came one day after Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh said armed Palestinian factions were dedicated to the truce in the troubled Middle East region, Ynetnews said.
