Iran executes accused Israeli spy

TEHRAN, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- An Iranian accused of spying for Israel has been executed in Tehran, official media reported Saturday.

Iran's state-run IRNA news agency said Ali Ashtari, 45, was put to death six months after Tehran's Revolutionary Court convicted him of spying for the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad in exchange for money, CNN reported.

"Evidence of Ashtari's crime was overwhelming," officials told IRNA.

CNN, quoting the Iranian news service Fars, said Ashtari, a salesman, confessed to obtaining high-end electronic equipment from Mossad and selling it to military and defense equipment merchants in Iran.
