KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- A French solider on a mine-clearing mission was killed and another injured in Afghanistan Saturday, officials said.

The bomb specialists were working on foot near Kabul when the explosion happened outside the camp at Darul Aman, a French military spokesman told CNN.

Twenty-three French soldiers are among the more than 1,000 total deaths among coalition forces since October 2001, the broadcaster said.
