Argentina: Ex-chief commits TV suicide

BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- A former top law enforcement official in Argentina wanted on human rights charges killed himself on television.

Police were en route to Mario Ferreyra's home to arrest him when he shot himself in the head, La Nacion reported Saturday.

Ferreyra, a one-time police chief, killed himself while granting an interview to an Argentine television station about his alleged involvement in the torture and deaths political opponents during the country's former dictatorship known as the "Dirty War" (1976-1983).

About 30,000 were killed or disappeared during the Dirty War.
