TUKWILA, Wash., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Terrified shoppers scattered as a gunman shot two young men in a Seattle-area mall Saturday afternoon, killing one.
The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. PST at Southcenter Mall in Tukwila, The Seattle Times reported. Witnesses said the shooter and the victims appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s.
The two victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The hospital reported Saturday evening that one had died.
Police locked down the mall after the shooting. Shoppers were later evacuated and stores ordered to lock up as SWAT teams from around the area searched the entire mall.
One woman told the Times she heard the shots while she ate lunch. She said that just before she left she saw police placing someone in handcuffs.
Chauncey Williams, a soldier stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash., said he saw a man pull out a gun during an argument.
Martin Rosenblum told the newspaper he left Fast-Fix Jewelry and Watch Repairs to catch a late lunch when he saw a crowd "running and screaming."
"They were saying 'Get out. Get out," he said.
At least two people other than the shooting victims were taken to hospitals. One was a woman who began having labor pains.
