Teacher cited for wearing Obama T-shirt

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A Florida history teacher says he doesn't agree with his principal that he engaged in unethical political activity by wearing a Barack Obama T-shirt to school.

Dennis Yuzenas, who teaches American history at Bak Middle School, refused to sign a memorandum saying he violated ethics rules three days after the election, the Palm Beach Post reported Wednesday.

"As per the Code of Ethics and the above state School Board policy, students may not know your political view," read the memo by principal Elizabeth Kennedy. "This could be construed as using your position to influence others."

Admitting he's very liberal, Yuzenas told the Post he did his best to remain apolitical during the election campaign.

He wore the Obama T-shirt on the Friday after the election, saying it was part of his lesson plan that day.

"I was talking about the role of art in society and tying in this T-shirt to Picasso's Guernica," he said.
