Eric Volz spent 15 months in prison before the court reversed his conviction. He was then deported from Nicaragua.

Volz said in a video posted on the Internet that the Supreme Court could either reinstate the guilty verdict or order a new trial, The (Nashville) Tennessean reported.

"Either way, once again I will be a wanted man in Nicaragua," he said.

Volz and another man were found guilty of sexually assaulting and then strangling Doris Ivania Jimenez, 25. Volz, who had dated her, was sentenced to 30 years.

A one-time surfer, Volz had become involved in real estate in Nicaragua and published a magazine, El Puente or The Bridge, that covered tourism and development.

Volz had witnesses who said he was elsewhere when Jimenez was killed in the store she owned in Rivas.
