WASHINGTON, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation plans to make a major donation to help build the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial on the National Mall in Washington.

The Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial Project Foundation has raised $100 million of the $120 million needed to complete the project, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

The King memorial will be located on the bank of the Tidal Basin, about halfway between the Jefferson and Lincoln memorials.

At the memorial, visitors will walk through two giant granite stones symbolizing the ''Mountain of Despair'' and then emerge before a 28-foot statue of King, the newspaper said.
