LAS VEGAS, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Las Vegas police allege an armed man went on a bizarre crime spree in which he attempted to kidnap children, ultimately killing himself when cornered.
Authorities said the unidentified man drove haphazardly around Las Vegas Sunday in a Volkswagen Beetle, allegedly attempting to kidnap four people, including at least two children, and firing shots at a boy on a bicycle during a 105-minute spree, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.
The man also allegedly groped several women and tried to run over two men in a restaurant parking lot before crashing his car into a wall and shooting himself in the face as police approached him, authorities said. No one else was reported hurt in the incidents.
Police told the Review-Journal the man's motives were unknown, and that a background check revealed he had had few contacts with police and didn't fit the profile of possible serial law-breaker.
"We literally have so many different crime scenes, and so much stuff going on, that it's going to take a while for us to sort it all out," Las Vegas Police Lt. Ted Snodgrass told the newspaper.
