N.Y. prosecutor targeting Craigslist drugs

NEW YORK, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A New York prosecutor says the online sales Web site Craigslist should remove postings that appear to offer illegal drugs for sale.

Special narcotics prosecutor Bridget Brennan alleges her investigators found numerous instances in which drug dealers offer their illegal goods through thinly veiled Craigslist personal ads, New York's Daily News said Monday.

The investigators claim after answering Craigslist postings with replacement words for cocaine and other illicit drugs, they would meet New York dealers for an exchange.

Brennan alleged in a letter to Craigslist Chief Executive Officer Jim Buckmaster that while such undercover efforts have led to dozens of drug dealers facing prosecution, the online postings still exist.

"Despite devoting considerable resources to prosecuting these cases, drug dealing is still thriving on Craigslist," Brennan alleged.

The Daily News said the drug-dealing claims come more than a week after Craigslist enacted new security measures to clamp down on postings for prostitution and other illegal activities.
