SAN DIEGO, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Southern California had a minor earthquake early Monday centered near the Palomar Observatory in northern San Diego County, seismologists said.

No damage was reported in the temblor, which the U.S. Geological Survey said was a magnitude 4.1 quake. The Riverside (Calif.) Press-Enterprise reported the quake was felt in such area communities as Rancho Santa Margarita, Alisjo Viejo, Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

The earthquake, which struck at 4:35 a.m., began 8.5 miles deep beneath the Cleveland National Forest, about 10 miles north of the observatory, the USGS said.
